Muslims and Christians at Atebubu in Brong-Ahafo Region have signed a peace accord to end a protracted land dispute, which nearly turned bloody about two weeks ago.
The two religious groups met at a meeting with the Brong-Ahafo Regional Security Council last Friday and agreed to live peacefully with each other.
A misunderstanding ensued between the Muslim Community and the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church at Atebubu, thus leading to the some Muslim youth allegedly burning down a mission house belonging to the SDA Church.
However, at the meeting, which was attended by leadership of the two groups, and lasted for more than five hours, they expressed regret about the misunderstanding and commended efforts by the Security Council to resolve the matter.
Pastor Dr Paul Amo Kyeremeh, the President of the Mid-North Ghana Conference of the SDA Church, stated: “We forgive our brothers who destroyed our property”.
“We have surrendered the piece of land behind the controversy to you, our Muslim brothers and sisters, to end the rift”.
Alhaji Gyasi Ahmed Dauda, the Regional Board Chairman for Muslims in Brong-Ahafo, expressed his contentment that the misunderstanding had been resolved and gave the assurance that the Muslim Community would live peacefully with the other religious organizations in the Region.
“We are very sorry about what happened and our position is to build a new mission house for the church,” he said.
