Sheikh Sa-id Abubakar Mukhtar, Research Fellow at Ghana Muslim Academy, has asked Muslims to be cautious of certain unacceptable behaviours in the Qur’an that are shown as they enter into the moment of Ramadan.
He said Ramadan is known as a month of the Qur’an because it was the period that Allah gave the Holy Book to Prophet Mohammed which makes it necessary for Muslims to quit acts such as fighting and stealing, enjoy the goodness that follows the celebration of the season.
He made the request at the 17th Mujahid Ramadan lectures organised by the Academy in Accra to prepare Muslims as they enter Ramadan.
Sheikh Abubakar noted that Muslims who indulge in bad things do so either because they do not read the sayings of the Qur’an or do not understand the teachings in it.
He said some Muslims misinterpret the Holy Book for giving them the opportunity to marry more than one wife ignoring the part that talks about being just and fair to them all.
Quoting the Qur’an, he said: “If any of you have the heart that would not hurt a fly; if you are afraid to cheat anyone; or violate the right of an orphan, then you can marry in between one and four wives. However, if you are afraid not to be just amongst them, then don’t marry more than one.”
Sheikh Abubakar advised Muslims to seek healing and curing with versus from the Qur’an and stop going about to look for help from spiritual persons whenever they are not feeling well.
Mr Issah Boateng, a member of the Academy said the core objectives for organising the annual Ramadan lectures is to sensitise the public on issues affecting their day to day spiritual, political, economic and social development.
He said it was also organised to reflect issues on affecting the Muslim community in particular and the nation as a whole; and to create an advocacy platform for issues which need urgent attention and rectification.
