National Cathedral: Duncan Williams slams Christian critics for being partisan

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan William, founder of Action Chapel International has taken a swipe at persons opposing the construction of the National Cathedral, particularly those within the Christian faith.

According to him, Christians opposing the building of the controversial National Cathedral are doing so based on political party affiliations.

He told his congregation on Sunday, “..You know the people fighting it? Not other religions, but it’s us, Christians. It’s us, Christians fighting it”.

He added: “And some of you are fighting it because it is not your party and your President that is building it so you must oppose it. Some of you love your political parties and are more loyal to your political parties than you are to the bible and the cause of Christ.”

It has become contentious and a matter of debate, the building of a national Cathedral at a time when the President of the republic, Akufo Addo has admitted of hardship in the country after taking over the reins of government for close to two years.

Other well-meaning Ghanaians such as the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ade Coker, described the decision to construct a national cathedral as a misplaced priority.

Also reiterating the point of “misplaced priority” was the Trades Union Congress (TUC), who in a statement copied to Kasapafmonline.com said “We would like to appeal to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to shelve this plan otherwise we will invite all Ghanaians to join us to campaign vehemently against this misplaced priority and to protect the national purse,” TUC said.
