More than two thousand people were baptized at the end of the Imitation of Christ campaign conducted by the Ghana Union Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in collaboration with the Encounter With Trust TV Ministries in Accra – Ghana.
Over ten thousand people turned out at the nation’s parade ground – the independence square - each night to listen to the renowned International Evangelist, Pastor, (Dr.) Andrews Lawrence Ewoo, for twelve nights of powerful and truthful messages from the Bible.
He impressed upon his listeners the need to trust in Jesus Christ and also learn to walk in His footsteps, as He is the only Savior of the world.
Pastor Ewoo abhorred the current misconceptions about Christianity and warned the people about what he described as ‘Christianity that leads people to damnation rather than leading them to salvation’ and urged the crowd to be very circumspect in the choice of churches and beliefs. ‘Let the Holy Spirit guides you.’ He stressed.
Night after night, the numbers grew larger but they sat orderly and quietly to listen amidst the shouts of AMEN, AMEN!!! in appreciation and acceptance of the word of God coming from Pastor Ewoo.
Normally such a huge crowd would have generated needless noise and disorderliness but surprisingly everyone sat and paid critical attention to the messages till the end.
Many people interviewed described the campaign as phenomenon and suggested it should be conducted regularly for as many people as possible to have the chance to hear such life-changing messages.
‘I have never seen such a gathering and also not heard such a message before. It is just like what we read from the Bible during the times of Jesus Christ and the early Christian days.’ Yaw Ankomah from Taifa in Accra intimated.
The campaign which was beamed live around the globe via YouTube as well as a number of radio stations in the USA, the UK, Canada, and Ghana also had centers at various points in the Greater Accra region such as Dodowa, Tema, Achimota among others, where hundreds of people watched on giant screens. It was also listened by thousands via an MTN facility.
According to the organisers of the campaign, the YouTube and the MTN facilities will continue to be available for listeners to continue to access and download until the end of the year.
Health talks, health screening, music and prayers preceded each evening’s message. Hundreds of people were also healed from their infirmities while several of them testified of their answered prayers.
On Saturday the 11th of October 2014, more than two thousand people gave their lives to Jesus Christ and were baptized right in the sea behind the Independence Square with several hundreds also renewing their commitment to the service of God.
It was an insightful spectacle of over fifty Seventh-day Adventist pastors defiling the rains, which stared just after the sermon by Pastor Ewoo and engaged in the baptism of the new converts.
Pastor Ewoo described the downpour as a blessing and another ‘form of baptism’ for even those who had already been baptized.
Pastor Ewoo retires from active Ministerial service after 45 years of dedicated service to the Lord. A grand send off party in his honor will be held at the Garrison Adventist Church at Burma Camp in Accra and on Sunday the 19th October 2014.
