Some Justices of the Supreme Court of Ghana, Christian religious leaders and youth groups have embarked on a Unity Walk as part of the National Week of Prayer and Thanksgiving.
The Walk, which took place on Saturday was organised by the various youth leaders from the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches, Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Council of Independent Churches, National Catholic Secretariat and Christian Council of Ghana.
The Walk, which started from the Obra Spot of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle went through Adabraka, Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, State House and ended at the Osu Ebenezer Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
Patrons of the Walk displayed placards with various messages such as “Keep the unity, Ghana is one, united we stand, stop winner takes all, let’s build consensus and let’s be one” to drum home the need for oneness.
Addressing the participants after the Walk, His Lordship Justice Ankamba from the Supreme Court of Ghana urged the youth present to continue to advocate for unity in diversity. According to him, the Walk which brought together various youth leaders from varied churches is enough evidence that we can unite to develop Ghana.
He therefore, admonished participants to continue to promote peace and unity, and play their role as responsible citizens for the development of Ghana.
Archbishop Palmer Buckle, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra who was also part of the Walk noted that, the youth are the hope of Ghana and society must provide them with the enabling environment for them to develop their talents for nation building.
“The future will only be for the youth if we cherish and treasure them today” he stated.
He urged them to avoid any action that will deny them from maximising the talents that God has given to them.
Mr. Edward Ayem, the leader of the youth who led the planning of the Walk assured participants that, they will remain focused as young people and contribute their quaota to national development.
According to him, young people in Ghana have a responsibility of ensuring that, politics does not divide the nation but remain united and become agent of peace and development wherever they find themselves.
“We will not allow politics or any selfish political leader to use us to destroy the peace of this country. We have resolved to promote unity and peace, and we not allow any action from anyone to destroy our peace and the future of young people” he emphasised.
