The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has commissioned 48 men and women as ordained ministers of the mission.
The newly commissioned ministers were trained at the Ramseyer Training Centre at Abetifi and are supposed to serve on probation for two years.
Reverend Dr Effah Ababio, past Chairperson of the West Brong Presbytery, told the new ministers that, their mission is to go and make disciples for God to support the growth of the church and not to crave for money and wealth.
He used the occasion, to criticise the craze for money, expensive cars and unnecessary struggle for underserved popularity by many pastors instead of their core mandate to preach the gospel.
Rev Ababio noted that, the ability to preach and to do the work of God as a minister of the gospel is by the grace of God and therefore: “Let no man boast of his ability to heal or preach to repent others from their sinful ways,” he cautioned.
Rev Professor Emmanuel Martey, Moderator of the General Assembly of the PCG, who performed the act of commissioning and licensing of the new ministers into the service, charged them to set examples in word and faith without fear or favour for others to emulate.
Rev William Ofosu-Addo, Director of the Ramseyer Training Centre, said while the office of the pastor remains prestigious globally, it also has challenges, particularly in these contemporary times where many charlatans have found their way into the ministry.
He therefore admonished the new ministers to commit themselves to daily prayers, meditation and bible studies in order to prevent the tendency of searching for their own identity instead of obeying the command of God to make disciples which is the basis of their calling.
