The leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, has appointed His Excellency Monsignor Julien Kaboré as Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana.

Monsignor Julien Kaboré would be replacing His Excellency Archbishop Henryk Mieczysław Jagodziński as Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana.

According to a release by the Apostolic Nunciature in Ghana, until his new appointment by the Holy Father, Monsignor Julien Kaboré, a Burkinabe, was the Titular Archbishop-elect of Milevi.

"Pope Francis has appointed today His Excellency Monsignor Julien Kaboré, Titular Archbishop-elect of Milevi, as Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana. He replaces His Excellency Archbishop Henryk Mieczysław Jagodziński as Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana.

"Monsignor Kaboré was born in Zorgho, Burkina Faso, on 18th June 1968. He was ordained a priest on 8th July 1995 and was incardinated in the Diocese of Koupéla. He graduated in Dogmatic Theology and Canon Law, and entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See on 1st July 2004. He has served at the Holy See Secretariat of State and Nunciatures in Kenya, Papua New Guinea, Costa Rica, Korea, Croatia, Trinidad and Tobago, Philippines, and Ireland. He speaks French, English, Italian, and Spanish," part of the release, which is dated Saturday, June 29, 2024, reads.

An apostolic nuncio is an ecclesiastical diplomat, serving as an envoy or a permanent diplomatic representative of the Holy See to a state or to an international organization.

In other words, an apostolic nuncio is an ambassador or high commissioner of the Vatican to a state.
