Kumasi, Aug. 12, GNA - The Right Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has called on Christians to be wary of corrupt practices and beliefs that had dominated the institution of marriage in recent times. He said gay marriages; lesbianism, abortion, pre-marital sex and unwarranted divorces had become acceptable in some Christian communities in the name of modernism.

Rt. Rev. Frimpong-Manso appealed to Church leaders to wage a campaign against this development with the view of promoting the ethical values and noble ideals inherent in the institution.

He was speaking at the fourth national crusade of the Presbyterian Youth and Students Assembly (PREYSA) in Kumasi at the weekend. The crusade organized under the auspices of the Committee on Youth Ministry of the Church, was under the theme, "the Christian youth in a globalised world".

The Moderator noted the high level of insolence among the youth as a result of broken homes, which deprived them of the needed parental care in their upbringing.

He advised Christian youth not to succumb to peer pressure and to lead morally upright lives to enable them to harness their potentials. Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa, Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, advised the youth against what he called "destructive programmes" on the Internet but to patronise those with the potential of ensuring their development. 12 Aug 07
