Agona Swedru, June 19, GNA - The Presbyterian Church Of Ghana, in Collaboration with the Presbyterian Relief Service and Development (PRS&D), has presented educational support to Church's JSS and primary schools at Agona Swedru.
The items include, 180 dual desks, 12 pieces of teacher's tables and chairs, 1,700 pieces of assorted text books, 3,600 exercise books and six bales of used cloths worth GHC26,264.
Reverend Herbert Anim Oppong, Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, who made the presentation, said the items were in fulfillment of the promise the Church gave to the management of the schools.
The Clerk said the Church has provided social services to the people, in the area of education, health, sanitation, water, human resource, agriculture, as part of its social responsibility.
Rev Oppong said the formation of the PRS&D, a subsidiary agency of the Church was to offer social services, to complement government's efforts at reducing poverty among Ghanaians.
The Clerk expressed the hope that the presentation would go a long way to promote educational delivery in the area and also motivate teachers to work extra hard to ensure academic excellence.
Reverend Daniel Oppong-Wireko, Director of PRS&D said their aim and objectives was to assist the poor and vulnerable, mostly women, through the provision of entrepreneurial skills and other incoming generating activities to improve their economic well-being.
He said the PRS&D has been organizing educational programmes on sexual and reproductive health in the rural areas.
Rev Oppong-Wireko appealed to all and sundry to desist from acts, which causes floods, adding that, government and organizations cannot spend huge sums of money to support flood victims.
Nana Aseidu Kobina Botwe II, Swedruhene commended the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for their immense contributions and material assistance given to the needy.
A heavy downpour, which hit Agona Swedru and Agona Nyakrom on June 20 last year, rendered over 10,000 people homeless and destroyed properties worth several thousands of Ghana Cedis.
