A counseling and welfare unit has been established in the Winneba Prisons to address welfare related issues and to offer the inmates counseling services.
Assistant Commissioner of Prisons (ACP) Samuel Adjei-Attah, Officer-In-Charge of the Winneba Prisons, said this at an end-of-year thanksgiving church service for the officers and prisoners.
He said it had been a long standing wish of the facility to address the welfare needs of inmates but due to lack of resources they were not able to realize their dreams until recently.
ACP Adjei-Attah said as part of the reformation and the rehabilitation of the inmates, the administration of the prison, in collaboration with the Non-Formal Education Division of the Ministry of Education and the Effutu Municipality organized literacy classes for 25 prisoners.
He expressed his appreciation to Brig Gen Joseph Nunoo- Mensah for donating 300 bags of cement and Nana Obosu X, Chief of Effutu Ateitu for donating 15 trips of sand which enabled them to make blocks to build a permanent perimeter wall to strengthen security in the facility.
Prayers were said for the Prison Service, prisoners and the country for God’s continued blessings and protection.
