Put Biblical Tenets Into Practice - Christians Told

Sun, 6 Jan 2008 Source: GNA

Winneba, Jan. 6, GNA-Ghanaians, especially Christians and Muslims in the country, have been urged to put into practice the excellent divine guidelines provided them from the Holy Bible and the Holy Koran to enable them to make decent and honest contributions towards national development. When Christians and Muslims who constitute majority of the nation's population diligently follow the tenets in the two great books, the way forward for proper and sustainable socio-economic, spiritual, political and development would be easy for the country in the years ahead. In his New Year message, Right Reverend Bishop Dr. Godfred N. K. Zormelo of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, said it was about time Ghanaians practiced the good things they are thought each day from the Holy Bible and the Holy Koran to ensure their easy access to the abundant Divine Blessings which God had in stock for mankind. Rt. Rev. Dr. Zormelo expressed concern that even though nearly 95 percent of Ghanaians claimed to be ardent followers of Christ and Islamic Faith, the crime wave and other immoral acts in the country continue to rise astronomically in recent times.

He warned that until the people, particularly Christians and Muslims who formed the bulk of the populace turned from their evil deeds and do the right things, "we shall continue to experience worst crimes in the coming years."

Rt. Rev. Bishop Dr. Zormelo made it clear that it would be very difficult for the nation to secure a lasting economic freedom, while the people continued to hide behind the Holy Bible and the Holy Koran to commit all sorts of economic and other crimes with impunity to the detriment of Biblical and Islamic principles. On the political front, Rt. Rev, Bishop Dr. Zormelo added his voice to the call on flag-bearers and followers of the various political parties to ensure maximum decorum and circumspection in all their electioneering activities to maintain the peace and stability being enjoyed in the country.

He reminded Ghanaians that they should not forget that they belonged to one big family whose main target was to achieve a common destiny for its members and so it was needless for leaders and members of the various political groups to indulge in acts that could throw the nation into disarray.

He called for the creation of more job openings to cater for the jobless and also provide meaningful wages for workers in the country to ensure higher productivity.

Rt. Rev. Bishop Dr. Zormelo expressed the hope that Ghanaians would assist the security personnel and the government to host the up-coming Ghana 2008 soccer tournament scheduled to take off in the country later in the month, to enable the nation to carve, yet another enviable image for herself. 06 Jan. 08
