Following public concerns about the rising incidence of corruption, indiscipline and reckless exploitation in some sectors of Ghana’s economy, there have been calls for the appointment of leaders with sterling qualities of integrity, courage and competence to manage the country’s institutions and resources.

The latest call was made by Rev. (Engineer) Gustav Dedjoe-Djokotoe, the Central-Western Presbytery Synod Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, who has cautioned that Ghana risks being confronted with severe environmental, health and other forms of socio-economic consequences if it fails to streamline some of its institutions with meritorious and devout leaders.

“As a people serving in leadership positions, let us be guided by our faith and demonstrate a high sense of honesty, impartiality, proficiency, courage and values of astute leadership in the discharge of our stewardship duties in the diverse positions we serve,” he emphasised.

Rev. Dedjoe-Djokotoe, who also serves as a professional civil engineer, was addressing the 28th Annual National Delegates Conference of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Men’s Fellowship held at Takoradi in the Western Region. The conference was held under the theme, “Care for God’s creation: the mission and task of men in the Church and society.”

Rev. Ing. Gustav Dedjoe-Djokotoe described a true leader as someone whose values of competence inspire the interest of huge followers across diverse divides, and is capable of transforming failures into success stories as well as building capacities and promoting discipline for positive returns.

He urged the Men’s Fellowship to serve as dedicated stewards in promoting the Spiritual and socio-economic growth of the Church, while serving as true leaders in their families, institutions and society at large where their services are required.

The Men’s Desk Programme Officer of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, Rev. Dr Abraham Akoto, also urged members of the Men’s Fellowship to rise to their stewardship responsibilities in enhancing the desired transformation by exploiting the potentials of their God-given talents.

“If we fail to care for creation, we fail to care for God’s gift. But if we are faithful, then like trees planted beside streams of water, we will bear fruit that will last for generations to come,” he remarked.

The National President of the E.P Church, Ghana Men’s Fellowship, Mr. Foster Agotse, noted that besides its evangelism drive on the national and Pan African radar, the Fellowship through its local presbyteries has invested in some income-generating initiatives including the Mango plantation at Kpong in the Eastern Region, rice plantation at Ve Kolenu in the Volta Region as well as tree planting project across the country to mitigate the effects of climate change.

He expressed concern about the ramifications of irresponsible mining and the reckless devastation of the country’s vegetative cover, and urge members of the Fellowship to serve as advocates to restore sanity in the country’s mining and forestry sectors.
