SDA Church steers youth away from vices

Techiman (B/A), Jan. 8, GNA - Pastor J K Badu, President of the Mid-West Ghana Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA), has said the leadership of the Church would not relent in efforts at steering the youth away from social vices.

Addressing about 600 youths of sector three of the Church at the close of a 10-day annual camp meeting at Techiman, he expressed concern about the proliferation of churches amidst the upsurge of social vices and other negative practices among the youth.

"The SDA Church will neither entertain nor countenance the wrong doings of the youth, as that would have adverse effect on their development", he emphasised.

Pastor Badu appealed to parents to closely monitor the movement of their children to ensure that they would develop to lead morally upright lives.

He advised the youth to take their education seriously and to aim at pursuing higher academic laurels so that they could acquire gainful employment.

The church leader called on members of the Church to allow their Christian faith to reflect in their lifestyles since they were regarded as role models in society.

Nana Boakye Ansah, Krontihene of Wiaso, near Techiman who presided, cautioned the youth against pre-marital sex, alcoholism and taking of hard drugs.

He expressed regret about the spate of armed robberies in the country, the perpetrators being mainly the youth, saying this posed a bleak future for the country if such negative attitudes were not nipped in the bud.

Nana Boakye Ansah appealed to religious leaders to preach to steer the youth away from unproductive practices that could adversely affect their development.

Mr James Dzade, the sector's youth coordinator, commended the youth for comporting themselves well for the success of the programme and urged them to live by the teachings and education they had received.
