SDA Prays for the nation

Accra, Feb 3. GNA - The Madina District branch of the Seventh -Day Adventist Church (SDA) has ended a week long prayer festival, under the theme "Praying for the Nation @ 50".

The programme forms part of the activities of the church to mark the 50th anniversary celebration of the nation on Saturday.

The church prayed for the leadership of the nation as well as its security and all the political parties.

Hon. Alhaji Amadu B. Sorgho, NDC Member of Parliament for the Madina District was the guest of honour for the occasion.

Alhaji Sorgho observed that Ghana was a blessed country and that when one listens to the radio or watch television on the crisis situations in other countries, one sees that Ghana has been a peaceful place for the past 50 years.

He noted that, so many people begun the fight for Ghana's independence and that it was unfortunate that most of them are now dead to enjoy the fruits of their fight.

Hon Sorgho said the people must invest in God by helping the church to be able to help in the development of the community.

He expressed his appreciation to the church for their involvement in development projects and pledged two million cedis and 20 bags of cement for the development of the church.

Poster Kwabina Twum of the church who preached the sermon under the theme "There was no king in Israel" said "After every revival there is going to be a fall ".

Poster Twum noted that, Ghana is enjoying a peaceful political regime, and must be maintained.

He noted that the university campuses have been turned into grounds for training armed robbers, rapist and prostitutes, adding that, "alcohol has dominated our television screens which is against the teachings in the Bible".

Poster Twum also talked on indiscipline, fornication and adultery on the part of members and cautioned against it.

He said the gap between the rich and the poor in the country seems to be widening and that, instead of the rich showing off their wealth they could rather channel such resources into developmental projects like digging of bole holes in the rural area.

He urged Ghanaians to continue praying for the nation and its leaders for a better and safer country.
