Need for members to testify in Presbyterian Church of Ghana 96 Rev Ofosu Addo

Kumasi, June 14, GNA - The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has been challenged to allow members to give testimony about their faith in God.

Reverend Kwabena Ofosu Addo, National Director of Mission and Evangelism of the Church who made the call explained that the move would encourage other members to open up in propagating the Gospel and wining more souls for Jesus Christ.

"Because members are not allowed to give testimony about their faith= in God during church service, they find it difficult to witness for Jesus Christ in their communities," he added.

Rev Ofosu Addo was delivering the sermon at a Thanksgiving Service to climax a three-day Atonsu District Convention in the Asante Presbytery. It was on the theme: 93Empowered by the Holy Spirit." Some of the topics treated were Tithing, and Giving, the Holy Sacrament and Deliverance Service.

He noted that the Church with a membership of about 700,000 nationwide had not witnessed any accelerated growth despite the various thought provoking themes being adopted by the General Assembly during the past decade.

Rev Ofosu Addo stressed that the setback was because the members were not encouraged to give testimonies and were therefore not enthused to witness for Jesus Christ in their communities.

"The General Assembly has for more than a decade adopted various themes to encourage the members to grow spiritually and encourage them to spearhead the crusade in propagating the Gospel but to no avail and efforts on membership drive has not achieved the desired impact," Rev Ofosu Addo said.

The National Director of Mission and Evangelism observed that the Church had over the years achieved so much in social responsibilities with the establishment of schools, hospitals, training and vocational institutions throughout the country (however), the salvation of the people was also important.

"There are many souls outside the Church yearning to be saved but the members lacked the needed push and encouragement to take up the challenge. Now is the time to review our methods in attracting more people into the Church for the Lord's work."

Rev Ofosu Addo commended the Atonsu District Session for the innovation to organise the convention that he said would encourage the members to have fellowship with God through frequent prayer and fasting and achieve the secret of financial success through giving.

Rev Kwasi Yeboah, Atonsu District Minister explained that the convention was organised for the members from various congregations to meet and interact in addition to the annual "Asempatrew" or crusade.

He said it would be institutionalised to afford more time for workshops, teachings, Bible studies, efficient and effective interaction between agents of the Church and members in the District.

Rev Yeboah explained that it was a spiritual exercise coupled with the generation of funds for evangelism in the District.
