The 47th Synod of the Kumasi Methodist Diocese opens in Kumasi

Kumasi, April 25, GNA - The Methodist Diocese in Kumasi has initiated projects for some of its second-cycle schools to enhance teaching and learning.

The projects include the construction of a three-storey girls' dormitory block for the Wesley Girls High School in Kumasi, provision of semi-detached masters' bungalows each for Osei Tutu Senior High School at Akropong and Offinso Training College as well as computers and furniture. Right Reverend Nuh Ben Abubekr, Bishop of the Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church, said this at the opening of the 47th Synod of the Diocese in Kumasi on Thursday.

The six-day Synod being attended by 1,000 delegates including reverend ministers, members of the church and other observers is under the theme "Keep the Fire Burning".

He said the diocese contributed 2,000 Ghana cedis to the Prempeh Senior High School last year to help finance some development programmes for the school. The diocese had instituted scholarship schemes for students at all levels of education as well as providing incentive packages to teachers. The Bishop said the construction of a hostel at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the Suame Roundabout Complex project being undertaken by the diocese had not been abandoned and that efforts were being made by the church to raise funds for the two projects. Right Rev. Abubekr expressed gratitude to ministers and church members of the diocese for their support and contributions towards the Methodist Church of Ghana Development Fund.

He said this year was crucial in the political history of the country because of the December 7 election and appealed to political leaders and their followers to conduct their campaigns peacefully to ensure the success of the election.
