Thousands Throng Nima To Celebrate Mtn-Salafest

Thousands of Muslims and non Muslims turned up on the Nima Highway last Sunday to celebrate the end of Ramadan with a major street festival dubbed “Salafest”. “Salafest” which was initiated by VIBE 91.9 FM in 1998 with support from the Ayawaso Council of Chiefs has now grown into one of the biggest festivals in the sub-region.

This year’s event had participants from Nigeria, Guinea, Mali, Niger and Chad taking part in a spectacular dancing and display of culture.

The procession which lasted for about two hours had Chiefs on horse back magicians, traditional drummers as well as some politicians on horse back adapting their messages through cultural displays.

The evening climaxed with a live concert featuring a host of musical stars such as Friction of VIP, FBS,D. Flex,Naza, Bandana and some international guest from Nigeria.

According to the Executive Producer of the event VIBE C.E.O, Mike Cooke, the event has enjoyed a relatively safe record without any recorded incident over the years.

He thanked MTN for supporting and partnering with the community all these years and said plans were for advanced into making this event a major tourist attraction in West Africa with the help of the Ghana Tourist Authority.
