Training workshop for Sunday school teachers ends

A four-day training workshop organised for 20 Sunday school teachers from different churches within the Tema metropolis by Evangelism Explosion Ghana, an evangelism ministry has ended at the Global Evangelical Church at Tema.

The workshop, with the theme, “Hope for Kids,” was to sharpen the skills of the teachers to enable them to take the children through effective interactive Bible lessons in their various churches.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Angela Awuah, National Director of Evangelism Explosion Ghana, said the advent of television and other modern technologies in recent times had exposed children to all kinds of immoral behaviours, such as truancy, prostitution and armed robbery, among others.

Mrs Awuah said to reverse these negative trends, the ministry believed training teachers to impart positive knowledge to the children would produce disciplined and well behaved children in society.

She said the workshop was to further deepen the knowledge and understanding of the Bible to enhance evangelism and outreach programmes, and ensure that the kids are nurtured to be good ambassadors of the word.

Mr Awuah appealed to civil society and corporate bodies to support the ministry with funding to enable it to expand its evangelism drive and win more souls for Christ.

Eric Kutortse, Board Chairman of Evangelism Explosion Ghana, said when children are exposed to biblical teachings at tender ages, they turn out to become responsible adults and contribute to national development.

He observed that acrimony and misunderstanding, which often leads to conflicts, was due to lack of unity and urged parents, religious organisations and the society at large to use the pulpit to preach peace.

The Evangelism Explosion Ghana boasts of training over 8,570 kids since its inception in 2010 and over 2,260 Sunday school children teachers across the country. It also offers training to about 1,000 teachers from different religious denominations in some basic schools across the country.

The Central, Brong Ahafo, Ashanti, Volta and Eastern regions have all benefitted from the ministry’s programme and there are plans to cover the Northern Region by the close of 2013. It is being carried out in partnership with One Hope, The Mailbox Club and Compassion International.
