Voting is not a sin – Pastor

The Reverend John Kwesi Darku, Executive Director, Africa, for Christ for All Nations Evangelistic Ministry, who stated this, made reference to the Bible where in Chapter 1 of the Book of Acts, it is recorded that the Apostles of Jesus Christ cast lots to elect a replacement for Judas Iscariot.

“It is actually in the will of God,” he added.

“We have all prayed – Christians, Muslims, traditional African religion practitioners – for a violence-free election and for the losing candidates to accept the people’s verdict so that there will be peace in the nation. Having done that, it is now up to us to cast lots or our ballots to elect men and women after God’s own heart to rule this country,” he said.

The CFAN Executive Director, who was addressing a stakeholder meeting of the Christian community in Sunyani at the weekend, ahead of this week’s Brong- Ahafo Greater Peace Crusade, asked all Ghanaians to pray for the Electoral Commission, especially its chairperson, Mrs Charlotte Osei, for wisdom, boldness and a spirit of fairness, “well in the knowledge that God is with them, to do what they have been constitutionally mandated to do”.

The three-day Brong-Ahafo crusade, organised by CFAN in partnership with the Christian community in the region, comes off at the SSNIT Grounds, Baakoniaba, Sunyani, from Thursday, December 3 through Sunday, December 6. The main speaker will be Evangelistic Daniel Kolenda, successor to Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke, the retired CFAN founder.

Reverend Darku reminded Ghanaians that “it is God who chooses leaders. When biblical Israel asked God for a king, he did not refuse them. This means that it is in the will of God that nations should have governments and rulers. For us as Ghanaians, what this means is that voting for leaders is in the will of God”.

He asked: “How can you be in the will of God if you do not exercise your franchise by going out there to vote. Your voting activates the will of God, enabling him to use elected leadership to carry out the plans he has for Ghana’s progress.”

Other speakers included Mrs Dorothy Danso, National President of Aglow International, who used the platform to appeal to women in the region to not only turn out in their numbers to pray for Ghana and receive from God, but also to invite friends and relatives to the crusade.

“Everybody knows us. Through women, Jesus came to the world to save sinners; through women, solid families are being built throughout the world. Let us use our God-given influence to bring people to the saving knowledge of God at this Brong-Ahafo crusade. Let our families, our colleagues in the office and at the market come to know Jesus Christ,” the Aglow International Ghana president urged.

Also present was the Anglican Archbishop of West Africa, Right Reverend Daniel Yinkah Sarfo.
