Reverend Alphonse Kwadzo-Kuma, the District Pastor of the Kpong Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church has emphasized the importance of women in the society and has called on all not to underrate the role they play in the society.
“The role of women in the society is very crucial and it will be very disastrous for any individual or society to try to undermine them.
Rev. Kwadzo-Kuma was speaking at a forum organized by the management of the church’s Child Development Centre (CDC), with funding from Compassion International and Action on African Women Foundation (AFWF), for 150 women who care for the 200 needy children in the CDC at Kpong.
The forum was held to educate the women on health issues and to make them understand the concept of the World Women’s Day, which was observed last Friday.
He argued that women were the first educators who take up the responsibility of teaching the child the right thing to do in society and that “if the society would be filled with educated and responsible adults, then, it is from the efforts of women.”
Rev. Kwadzo-Kuma called on men to respect and love their wives and to treat all women with respect and to also view them as very necessary vessels in the society.
He also urged women in the country not to coil up in their shell but to gather maximum confidence and faith to strive to attain their goals in society since “Ghana cannot see total development without you women.”
Mr Isaac Kweku Otchere, Coordinator of the CDC and organizer of the Forum entreated men to be tolerant towards women, saying the time had come for all stakeholders, especially the men, to end violence against women in the society.
He however appealed to women who deliberately invite violence against them through rude approach towards men to desist from such acts.
Madam Felicia Botchway, a Health Resource Person at the Forum, enlightened the women on malaria, cholera and diarrhea and urged them to report such cases immediately to a nearby health centre for treatment.
She also entreated the women to observe strict food and personal hygiene in order to stay healthy at all times.
