Yokama Foundation joins fight against coronavirus in Manya Krobo

The Yokama Foundation has through its social advocacy project against the spread of COVID-19 demonstrated its commitment to support ongoing efforts against the spread of the COVID-19 with the distribution of nose masks to several market women at the Agomanya market in the eastern region.

Yokama Foundation is made up of past Yokama queens selected over the years to serve various social intervention needs of the communities.

The Yokama (virtuous woman) was instituted seventeen years ago (2003) as part of the annual ngmayem festival to honour women of virtue who have contributed diversely towards the betterment of society.

The exercise on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, formed part of the foundation’s social responsibilities at contributing towards the alleviation of the pandemic in the Manya Krobo area.

Yokama 2019 and headmistress of the Manya Krobo Senior High School, Mrs. Agnes Dawukie Nanor Narteh said the Yokama foundation found it necessary intervening during this time of the pandemic to educate and provide COVID-19 prevention items to various groups in Manya Krobo.

Mrs. Nanor while reiterating that the disease was real said observing the safety protocols being preached remained the best approach towards alleviating the spread of the disease.

Hundreds of nose masks were distributed to market queens, as part of the exercise, for distribution to the traders. Various queens including cassava, pepper, okra, salt, corn, kokonte, beans, tomatoes, etc. received the masks on behalf of the market women.

The women group, as part of their activities on the day, educated the market women on the need to observe the COVID-19 protocols to avoid contracting the virus.

The foundation expressed its profound appreciation to the market queens whose immense assistance she added, contributed to the success of the exercise.

Various individuals supported the foundation with the provision of the items and Mrs. Nanor called on other benevolent groups and individuals to come on board and support the group’s activities with various COVID-19 prevention items such as face masks, veronica buckets, sanitizers, tissues, etc. to support the foundation distribute more to various groups.

On her part, Market queen of the agomanya market, Manye Susanna Korkor Kpabitey who accompanied the Yokama group on the activities expressed the sincere gratitude of the market women to the foundation for their show of love and support for the women.

She joined the members of the foundation to appeal to other prominent Krobo citizens to come aboard and support the foundation in its quest.

Manye Korkor said the absence of items such as thermometers, veronica buckets, sanitizers, and other coronavirus prevention items from the Agomanya market was worrying and launched an urgent appeal to Krobo indigenes all around the world to contribute their quota to the provision of these items to safeguard the health of the women as they engage in their trade.
