Sacrifice is essential in the Christian walk
The Very Reverend Fr. Samuel Filson-Mensah, Cathedral Administrator of the Holy Spirit Cathedral, on Sunday reminded Christians that their lives on earth must be a life of Sacrifice.
He said: “The cross of Jesus Christ reminds us of suffering and sacrifice… you are called to a life of sacrifice. Sacrifice without looking at the rewards and you will find fulfilment in that.
Very Rev. Filson-Mensah said Christianity was not a life of convenience, it was about “what you are ready to do for God.”
The Very Reverend Fr Filson-Mensah was speaking at a Special Mass organised by the St. Vincent De Paul Society. The Society a not for profit organisation within the Catholic Church which organises special mass for persons with disabilities once every year to foster inclusion in church services.
The service was attended by students from various special schools in Ghana, including the Akropong School for the Blind, Three Kings Special School, Battor and inmates of the Accra Psychiatric hospital.
Very Rev. Fr. Filson-Mensah said it takes a lot of passion for humanity and an interest in the well-being of others to care for children who are differently able and commended the teachers and staff of the various schools for their sacrifice for the well-being of humanity.
He especially commended Miss Mavis Hanu, a visually impaired student of the Akropong School for the Blind who read the second Bible reading impeccably.
At the church service, were also sign language interpreters who used sign language to translate what was said to the deaf.
Very Rev. Filson-Mensah using the scripture of 1 Kings 17:16 said it takes faith to be able to sacrifice for humanity, saying faith is based on trust and obedience to the word of God.
He said the Widow of Zarepath who Elijah asked for help, had God in view and thus, did not question, she did not doubt and she did not resist her religious duty and obligation.
“Know that there is a cost to anything divine and sacrifice, so don’t look at people’s comments and actions when you are responding to your religious duties, “Rev. Fr Filson-Mensah said.
