*YOUR WORLD NEEDS YOU*

We are all actors on the stage called the WORLD. We are in transition and one day will jump over the bridge or kick the bucket (to put it mildly). Funeral announcement posters of people ('Lawyers') said to have either ‘Gone too soon or Called to glory’ are becoming a common sight around the Ghana School of Law, the Courts of Law and throughout the country.

Many people seem to be dying around age 50 these days. Outside Ghana, the story is the same. Does anybody remember Michael Jackson dying at 50 and now Steve Jobs at 56? This leads to a pondering question as to whether life expectancy has dropped across the world or stress level increased as a result of our quest to succeed.

Whatever it is, I believe it is a reminder of how fragile we are as human beings as well as the need to use our time wisely. Life is said to be short; but in our generation, it is becoming shorter. Brothers and sisters, we need not waste time. The 'Call' is inevitable, but the question is whether it is going to be 'GONE TOO SOON' or 'CALL TO GLORY'. No one wants to die, as Steve Jobs rightly said in his Stanford address. It is gradually becoming apparent that how long we live, is not as important as how positively we affect our world. Many of the historical great men, who in one way or the other affected their world, went 'too soon'. Jesus Christ might have 'gone too soon', yet He continues to affect our World. Though Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah 'went too soon', Ghana as we know it today, would not have been without him (this is not meant to provoke a debate). The death of Michael Jackson (love him or hate him) turned the World upside down. Anybody inclined towards the gadgets ruling our world today, will be greatly affected by the death of Steve Jobs. The list is endless. How is your world going to remember you?

Life is short and becoming shorter, so do not waste it on unnecessary chase for vanity. We are all sitting on our individual time bombs, which is ticking slowly like the sand through the hourglass. We need to concentrate and finish whatever we set our minds on.' Time and tide wait for no man'. We often take these wise sayings for granted. It is time to stand up and be counted. Your world needs you, your country is calling, your community and household are looking up to you. You do not necessarily have to be a politician, a musician, an inventor, a preacher, etc, to affect your world. We can all in our own small ways, contribute to the wellbeing of our world. As far as I am concerned, the street sweeper is as important as the President; the houseboy or Watchman are equally important etc, etc. We all share a common denominator called death, which is always lurking around the corner. All we need is love for our communities, Country or World. Let the street sweeper do his bit and do it well, the politician stop corruption and abide by his oath of allegiance, the gardener do his bit, the Civil Servant, the Lawyer, the Judge, the Businessman, the Banker, the market woman, etc, etc, etc. We all have a part to play. Let us play it well and our world will be a better place than we met it.
