Cape Coast April 1, GNA- Christians in the Cape Coast municipality on Sunday held church services to mark Palm Sunday, which signifies the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem more than 2,000 years ago.
Many of the churches, which were filled to capacity, were also decorated with palm branches and fronds.
The various congregations held processions through the streets waved palm branches, singing Hosanna before converging at their churches to begin activities of "Passion Week" to herald Easter.
At the St Joseph Catholic Church, Reverend Fr. Samuel Asante, in a sermon called on Christians to emulate the prayerful example of Jesus and to do away with pride, laziness, greed, malice and inhuman acts that perpetrate intolerance, lawlessness, violence and unrest in the society.
He underscored the importance of prayers in the life of Christians and said it was unfortunate that Christianity which should have reached its peak with the springing up of many churches was rather saddled with all kinds of vices, which he stressed was tarnishing the image of the church and the Christian religion.
Fr Asante said as Jesus entered Jerusalem amidst cheers and praises, Christians should also join in the jubilation and hail Christ in their hearts and "lay down their pride, laziness, malice for the king of humanity, diligence, love, care and concern for others".
He said Jesus accepted whatever came his way in silence and prayed constantly, but expressed regret that Christians of today were impatient, intolerant and would revenge at the least provocation and urged them to learn to be silent, pray and make some sacrifices particularly for the needy and poor in society.
"If we emulate the prayerful and silent life of Jesus even in times of pain, suffering and death, we will cut off confrontation, confusion, tension and violence in the society" he added.
