Ho, June 15, GNA - The Reverend and Mrs David Christensen of the United Church of Christ in Connecticut, USA, on Friday presented a cheque for 1,000 dollars towards promoting formal education in Nkonya and Alavanyo.

The Rev. Christensen said the donation was in appreciation of the progress and commitment so far made by the two communities towards restoring peace between them.

He said he had since 2005 been following with keen interest developments in the two communities and Nkonya and Alavanyo were on the threshold of becoming good models to other communities in Ghana, Africa and the world embroiled in communal conflicts.

Rev Christensen said the donation was a token in support of young people in the two communities who needed to be equipped with knowledge for a future of prosperity.

Togbega Tsedze Atakora VII, the Paramount Chief of Alavanyo who received the cheque on behalf of the two communities, thanked the Rev. and Mrs Christensen for their personal interest and support for the peace process and formal education in the two communities. He said the two communities had got to a stage of "no-return" in the peace process.

Mr Evans Kanfra, the Secretary of the Mediation Committee, said the government was investing in infrastructure in Alavanyo and Nkonya in appreciation of progress made so far towards establishing peace in the area.
