Beposo (Ash), Oct 30, GNA - The Reverend Father Edward Owusu-Ansah, Catholic Priest of the Obuasi Catholic Diocese, has said the greatest legacy parents could bequeath to their children was quality education.
He said no nation could advance if it denied its citizens good education. Rev Father Owusu-Ansah was speaking at the launching of the Beposo Students Scholarship Scheme at Beposo in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region. Father Owusu-Ansah, who is a native of the town and the initiator of the scheme to assist brilliant but needy students, urged the government to support the establishment of scholarship schemes in rural communities.
The Priest who contributed 20 million cedis seed money for the scheme, paid tribute to his mother, Madam Agnes Owusu for supporting his education through difficult and hard times. In his address, Nana Kankam Boadu Apenteng II, Beposohene, called on parents to encourage their children to study hard and stop attending video shows and avoid smoking hard drugs and bad lifestyles. He assured the scholarship management committee of his support and advised them to put in place mechanisms to monitor its progress. Nana Asare Appiah, Nkosuohene of Beposo who is resident in the United Kingdom, thanked Father Owusu-Ansah for his contribution towards the development of the area. He said he had spent 50 million cedis on the renovation of the Catholic Primary School, the District Assembly Junior High School and sanitation at Beposo.
Nana Sarfo Asante Krobea II, Nkosuohene of Konkoma near Beposo, called on members of the management committee to ensure the sustenance of the scheme.
Miss Theresa Kwakyewaa, a tutor of Saint Louis Training College, presented forms to Emmanuel Addai and Mavis Asare as the first beneficiaries of the scheme for the academic year. The scheme management committee comprising Father Owusu-Ansah, Mr Maxwell Moses Appiah, Mr Nathan Anokye Yesuo, Mr Thomas Peprah Manu, Mr Agyei Forkuo, Miss Theresa Kwakyewaa and Miss Mina Amoakyei would pay their tuition fees. An appeal for funds yielded 12.7 million cedis.
