Koforidua, Feb. 06, GNA- The Clerk of the Akuapem Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rev Barima Appiah Dankwa has called on Christians to pray for the country as "we prepare to go to pools in December to elect a new President".
He also called on politicians and all other leaders to be careful of their utterances in order to ensure a fair and violent free campaign and to maintain the peace before during and after the election. Rev Dankwa, who is also the District Minister for Nsukwao made the call at the induction service of the newly elected Presbyters of the Calvary Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Nsukwao in the New Juaben Municipality on Tuesday.
He said the elections should not be viewed as a "do and die affair" but rather allow God to lead the process, so that at the end of the day, he would choose his own people to lead the country. Rev Dankwa said Ghana had set a record as one of the peaceful countries in the West African sub-region and therefore nothing should be done to mar it.
He urged the new presbyters to pray for God guidance in all that they do and not to lord it over the people, but be humble at all times. Rev Dankwa commended the congregation for the matured manner in which they elected the presbyters, and urged them to avoid back biting. "You should rather pray for them to enable them to discharge their duties effectively".
He also commended the out-going presbyters for their dedication and the selfless manner they steered the affairs of the Church successfully over the past eight years, which had seen the Church growing from strength to strength.
He urged them not to relax but help the new presbyters with their rich experience to discharge their duties effectively. In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed Senior Presbyter, Mr Laary Nukpezah thanked the church members for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to work hard to improve the numerical strength of the church.
