Accra, April 10, GNA-The Reverend Yeboah Mintah, Pastor at the Asylum Down Presbyterian Church on Sunday said Easter celebration was still very relevant and urged Christians to be part of the celebration since it was the basis of Christianity He said, in his opinion, Easter should be celebrated more significantly just like how Christians celebrate Christmas since the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ marked the cornerstone of the Christian religion.
Rev. Yeboah Mintah was speaking at the Good Friday Service held to commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He explained that the date for Easter celebration was calculated based on the appearance of the moon for the celebration of the Passover festival on the Jewish calendar and added that it was this reason why there was no fixed date for Easter Celebration as Christmas. "The Death and Resurrection of Christ is an event that happened in history," he said and emphasized the need to remember the day and use it as a moment to reflect on our Christian life."
He said the death of Christ also signified suffering and noted that suffering was part of the Christian life and people should not be deceived to think that Christianity is all rosy and smooth. "Jesus Christ had the power to save himself but he humbled himself to go through suffering to the extent of dying a shameful death on the cross," he added.
Rev. Yeboah Mintah therefore urged Christians to resist the pressures of everyday life that compelled them to do things against the will of God in exchange for money or material things. He advised people not to indulge in immoral acts as a way of celebrating Easter since those acts defied the reason for which Christ came to die on earth.
The congregation had communion in remembrance of the last supper Jesus Christ had with his disciples and gave opportunities to people who had not accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour to do so.
