Sunyani, (B/A), Nov. 18, GNA - The Christ the King Catholic Cathedral in Sunyani on Sunday launched the celebration of 85 years of the church's existence in the municipality.
Mr Kwamena Sackey, President of the Cathedral Pastoral Council and a planning committee who launched the programme said the church in the Sunyani Municipality had come far and was worthy of the celebration. He explained that since the introduction of Catholicism in Sunyani in 1924, there was no evidence on record that this important event had ever been celebrated.
He said due to that the history of Catholicism in Sunyani was not only very fragmented but also not properly documented. The marking of the occasion had therefore made it possible for the committee to obtain the history from the few living pioneers for the records, Mr Sackey added.
The week-long celebration was under the theme; "85 Years of Catholicism in Sunyani - Go and Bear Enduring Fruits".
Activities outlined for the programme includes a talk on 'Christ the King Feast,' narration of the 85 years history and candle light procession through the principal streets of the municipality.
There would also be a grand durbar of the Catholic Community for fund raising in aid of the Christ the King statue and a thanksgiving Pontifical High Mass to climax the programme on Sunday November 22, 2009.
Monsignor Richard Kyeremeh, the Cathedral Administrator, earlier in a homily on the theme; "Heaven and Earth Will Pass Away," enjoined the congregation to always prepare for a day of accountability in their spiritual and circular lives, since he added, there was an end in everything that had a beginning.
He emphasized that there was nothing one could do to prevent the day of reckoning in every aspect of ones life from happening but "we can prepare to meet the day in confidence and joy if the right preparation is done today". Monsignor Kyeremeh said whilst there was the need for all to be registered members of the National Health Insurance Scheme, people in both the public and private sectors must practice the culture of saving as a security and guarantee for a comfortable life in retirement.
