THE GENESIS ACCOUNT OF CREATION:
I believe that God created the earth and all things therein in the six days mentioned in Genesis Chapter 1. I have no reason to doubt that those days were literal days such as we know. I so believe because I accept the Bible to be God’s revelation to man. I am convinced that the facts set forth in the Genesis record offer the best explanation of origin of the universe and all living things.
Belief in organic evolution is so deep seated in the minds of some people that even those who profess faith in God and his word, can’t believe that it was possible for God to do all of this in one week. Evolutionists desperately need to convince themselves and the world that the Universe is 3-5 billion years old. They assert that all that now is has evolved from some ancient cosmic explosion. But no one in human history has ever witnessed a case of evolution, where one kind of creature became another kind. No genuine transitional fossils have been found that demonstrate that such a change occurred. Their response is “Well, given enough time, anything can happen”. We need billions of years in which to assume that what we see now evolved from lower forms of life.
But in the Scriptures we read:” By the word of Jehovah were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth….” That God spoke and it was done, He commanded, and it stood fast (Psalm 33:6-9).
Faith believes what God has written in his book (Rom 10:17). To question or reject what the Sacred Book says reveals a lack of faith. To say God could not have created the universe in the time frame mentioned in Genesis is to question God’s omnipotence. The Bible describes HIM as “ALMIGHTY”. The Angel of Jehovah declared “Is anything hard for Jehovah? (Genesis 18:14).
Some argue that the things of the earth shaped by wind, water, cold and ice demand millions of years to reach their present state. When Adam and Eve were created God brought them forth as fully grown, ready for marriage. Had one been there they would have looked to be 20 or more years of age when in reality they were only one day old. So also when HE created trees, they would appear full- grown as would animals. The face of the earth would appear to be older than one week, but it was not. Those making this claim fail to take into account the devastating effects of the Great flood of NOAH’S day on the face of the earth. The Bible tells us it was a universal flood. “The waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth, and all the high mountains that were under the whole heaven were covered. Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevailed. The waters of the flood prevailed upon the earth for a whole year (Genesis 7:11, 8:13-14). The fountains of the great deep were broken up (Genesis7:12. This speaks of earthquakes and shifting of continents that exacerbated the flood. The destructive power of the run off ,of the volume of water would have been terrific. The face of the planet would have altered by such a cataclysmic event. Again the question is, do we believe the divine record or do we prefer the speculations of unbelieving scientists.
The fossils found buried in the earth are vivid evidence of a universal flood. The creatures died suddenly and were buried beneath the sand, mud and debris immediately. If an animal dies in the jungle, scavenger birds and beasts not only devour the flesh, they scatter the bones. The coal beds are vast amount of vegetation that was ripped up, deposited and quickly covered with huge layers of rock and soil. Otherwise, when leaves fall from trees they rot and turn to soil, not coal.
Dear friends, when all the mind games are played, and all the court- room logic is expended, what really counts is how our beliefs affect our lives and the lives of those around us. We can continue to indulge in wild speculative theories whiles millions of people around the world lives in squalid conditions, ignorance, hunger, and the day to day uncertainties of life. The people of the world needs a personal God to sustain them. A loving God who can comfort, forgive and fulfill and the God who can do all this is personal and real.
In about A.D. 60, the Apostle Paul stood in the midst of Areopagus in Athens and addressed the Epicurean and Stoic Philosophers thus: “ God who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshipped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything since He gives to all life, breath and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their pre-appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings. So that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being……For we’re His offspring”.
We who profess Christ believe in the Biblical account of Creation and Glorify God for His wonderful work.
