Bolgatanga, Aug 16, GNA - Moslems in Upper East Region have been asked to use the Ramadan fasting period to pray for lasting peace in Bawku.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo, said this when he visited the Bolgatanga Central Mosque on Friday where he presented 20 bags of rice and 20 bags of sugar to the Moslems to be used for fasting.
The Regional Minister said they had not been informed of any skirmishes in Bawku for sometime and the people were living in peace and going about their normal duties.
He stressed the need for the Moslems to use the fasting period to pray for lasting and sustainable peace to return to the area.
Mr Woyongo said the Region would be celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and it would therefore be bad to hear that some parts of the Region were experiencing conflicts.
He told leaders of the Moslem community that they had a major stake in ensuring that peace prevailed in the Region.
Mr Woyongo assured the Moslems that the Regional Coordinating Council was working around the clock to source for funding to support them to complete the Bolgatanga Central Mosque.
He appealed to Moslems not to allow their children to be trafficked out of the Region.
The Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Alhaji Yusif Adams, thanked the Regional Minister for the donation and said they would use the fasting period to pray for lasting peace in Bawku, the Region and the nation as a whole.
