E.P Church National Presbyters Union institutes endowment fund for charity support and disaster relief

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) national presbyters union has instituted an endowment fund to provide humanitarian support to its members and other destitute in distressful situations, including victims of disasters such as floods and fire outbreaks.

The fund would also serve as a source of social intervention in deprived rural communities, as well as offering financial assistance to disadvantaged children of presbyters and other needy persons who could not afford educational needs.

Speaking during the launch of the endowment fund during a Thanksgiving service to climax the presbyters’ union three-day national delegates’ conference, the Parish Pastor of EPCG Trinity Parish, Madina, Rev. Vincent Dagadu, entreated faith-based organizations and other relevant stakeholders to prioritize humanitarian support initiatives for the underprivileged in society.

“We owe it a moral, religious, civic, and collective responsibility as a church, civil society, and stakeholders to provide relief and hope to the underprivileged in society who suffer severe destitution, thereby obstructing their well-being and progress,” he lamented.

Rev. Dagadu, a former Synod Moderator of EPCG Upper Northern Presbytery, lauded President John Dramani Mahama for instituting the first Saturday of every month as National Sanitation Day and declaring two days a mandatory clean-up national exercise to improve the waste disposal situation and hygienic conditions in the country’s cities and urban communities following the devastating effects of the floods in parts of the country.

The President of E.P Church National Presbyters Union, Dr. Ing Anthony Mawutor Atsu, explained that the endowment fund was aimed at providing timely relief to victims of fire outbreaks, floods, and other forms of disasters, as well as cushioning the socio-economic plight of prospective potential beneficiaries, with special attention on the union members.



He further disclosed that sources of the fund would include mandatory monthly contributions by members of the union, fundraising activities, donations from individual and corporate philanthropists, as well as international development donor support and investment schemes.

Dr. Ing Atsu appealed to members of the union and the entire EPCG membership to adopt the fund initiative to ensure its sustainability and attainment of its objectives.
