Yendi Churches organises party for prison inmates

The Yendi Local Council of Churches, has organised an end of year party for the 119 Yendi prison inmates.

Some members of the local council include Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist, Seventh - day Adventist, Methodist, Evangelical Presbyterian, Pentecost, Assemblies of God and Church of Christ.

Reverend Emmanuel Kwabena Mustapha, Baptist Missionary Incharge of North Eastern Mission Field, told journalists that the inmates are in prison to assess their lives and receive the needed correction, hence the need for the churches to expose them to the love of God.

He said it is a tradition for the churches to visit the inmates every Christmas to share the joy of the season with them.

Rev Mustapha appealed to the prison personnel to train the prisoners to acquire skills to live be independent when they are released.

Very Rev Alex Ezekiel Awotwe the Methodist Pastor in a sermon said the Grace of God that brings salvation appeared to man on Christmas and the inmates are part of the benefits.

He said all that the inmates need is to respond to the grace and Christ would transform them.

Deputy Superintendent of Prisons Domong Suuk thanked the churches for remembering the inmates and putting smiles on their faces.

He said the festive season should be used to share the word of God with the inmates to assist in reforming them
