Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel M. Debrah
The Koforidua Diocesan Lay Movement will on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 honour Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel M. Debrah, the first Lay Chairman of the diocese for his invaluable contribution to the work of the Lord and country at the annual S.K. Newton Memorial Lectures, second in the series to commemorate the 40 years celebration of the Diocese.
Ambassador Debrah was educated at Mfantsipim and Achimota Schools for his 'O' and 'A' Level education.
He furthered to University College of Gold Coast, now the University of Ghana, Legon in 1952 and to London School of Economics, United Kingdom.
He was one of the eight who were first to be appointed into the Ghana Foreign Service in 1955, two years before the attainment of Ghana's Independence.
He received honorary Doctorate (Dr) degree in Law from Wilberforce University, Ohia; Cedar Crest College, Allentown, Pennsylvania and Benedict College, Columbia, South Carolina. An extract from the Citation from Cedar Crest College sums up the character and some of the achievements of Ambassador E. M. Debrah.
He served in many countries across the continent such as Liberia, Egypt, United States of America, Ethiopia, Australia, Malaysia, New Guinea, Northern Ireland, Indonesia, Papua Guinea and United Kingdom of Great Britain among others.
In an interview with the media, Mr. Samuel Benjamin Mensah Jnr. the Lay Chairman of Koforidua Diocese explained that the essence of the institution of the annual S.K. Newton Memorial Lectures is not only to honour all Lay men and women who have made invaluable contribution to the work of the Lord, but also to educate members of the church today, about the concept of the Lay Movement as an instrument for mobilizing the lay in the church, to assist in the implementation of its decisions at all levels and in coordinating the activities of its organizations.
He said, this year’s lectures is under the theme: ‘40 years of service, prospect, challenges and the way forward’ and will be delivered by a Past Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel G.L. Twum-Baah.
Mr. Samuel Benjamin Mensah Jnr said it is important for society to honour people who have sacrificed their all with dedicated commitment in selfless service to the church and humanity.
To this end, he urged all and sundry to be part of this year’s S.K. Newton Memorial Lectures.
