ABU'S LIFE IN DANGER ... For Exposing National Security On Ya-Na

MR Abubakar Alhassan Daanaa, national co-ordinator of the Peace Seekers International, is sending out appeals to both local and international peace organizations, to help save his life from danger.

This follows threats on his life, through telephone calls "from all angles" and a note left on his door-step, warning him to prepare to face the consequence for opening his mouth "too wide" on the Yendi massacre, which resulted in the killing, in cold blood, of the Dagbon King, the Ya-Na and 40 others.

Prior to the threats, Mr Daanaa, known by colleagues as Abu, had gone on air, on Radio Gold to be precise, to narrate a story, which shocked the nation, about the fore-knowledge of the Kufuor Administration's security system on the plot to assassinate the Ya-Na.

According to Abu, he had signed a letter, on behalf of his organization, two clear months before the incident, alerting the office of National Security Co-ordinator, about the impending attack and the need for the Government or the Security Agencies, for that matter, to take the necessary steps to protect the Ya-Na and his people.

Unfortunately, he said, the warning had obviously gone unheeded. He said after news had broken out that the Ya-Na had been killed, he telephoned a very top security man to enquire whether he had heard what had happened. But, for an answer, he was asked to forever shut up his mouth over that matter. Mr Abu, who claims he has a copy of the letter and other facts to be revealed at a press conference on Monday, is now a "refugee", in his own country, battered with threats on his life.

He had actually sought an interview with Radio Gold, after relations between the National Security Co-ordinator and himself had become strained and had noticed that the former was seeking to destroy him by planting false stories in a newspaper, about him.

In the interview, Mr Abu claimed the relations had become strained, after he, Abu and some colleagues felt uncomfortable with the mad-rush for the acquisition of wealth and property by a national security man.

He said within his short stay in office, the man, who came down, only three years after driving taxis around in London, has now acquired a property in East London's "rich area" of Golders' Green and a chain of others in Ghana. He said he is prepared to pay any price for defending the truth and fighting corruption, no matter where it rears its ugly head.

It will be recalled that Abu was one of the first witnesses, who voluntarily appeared before the National Reconciliation Commission (NRC), where he narrated his experiences in BNI cells, where he was kept on suspicion of being part of a conspiracy to overthrow the erstwhile PNDC Government.

He emphasized that he remains a committed member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for which he had toiled and suffered so many "tribulations".
