Reports reaching Daily Guide indicate that the embattled Nkoranza North MP, Eric Amoateng has finally thrown in the towel as far as his position as MP is concerned, even before he goes on full trial next month. The correspondence containing the resignation notice is expected to be read on the floor of Parliament today.

Sources close to Hon Amoateng told Daily Guide that the MP who is being held in a New York Detention Centre for alleged drug trafficking to the United States, has asked his lawyers to write to Parliament, informing the august House of his decision to relinquish his seat. However, attempts to speak to his lawyers, Dennis Adjei-Brenya yesterday were unsuccessful. When a call was put through to Mr. Adjei-Brenyah, he said he could not speak at the moment, asking Daily Guide to call back later.

In the case of John Pattern, a message was left on his answering machine with a contact number.

The decision to resign from Parliament, Daily Guide learnt, was informed by the alleged accomplices in the drug business, detailing their operations. The Nkoranza North MP was arrested along with his friend, Nii Okai Adjei on November 12, 2005 at a storage house in Staten Island, New York, where they had gone to inspect a 136-pound heroin with a street value of US$6million, concealed in seven potteries. Nii Adjei has pleaded guilty and is co-operating with the prosecution in the case against his Nungua friend.
