Reports scooped by The Defender Newspaper indicate that the thrice defeated candidate of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof John Evans Atta Mills may after all not seek re-election as the flagbearer of his party for the 2008 general elections.

A source close to the Mills camp told The Defender that, following the introduction of some level of democracy in the party and the obvious withdrawal of support or anointing for Prof Mills by his former boss, Ex-President Rawlings, the political terrain has become tougher and more rugged for the learned professor. The emergency of the hard talking

Dr Ekow Spio Gabrah and former Mills bank roller, Mr. Eddie Annan on the presidential trial is therefore sending shivers down spines in the Mills Camp, the source added. The Defender scoop indicates that the Mills campaign team is making frantic efforts to realistically access the chances of their candidate across the country in order to allow the ex vice president make an informed decision on his presidential ambitions.

The Defender can reliably inform its numerous readers that Prof John Evans Atta Mills will honourably throw in the towel and withdraw from the race rather than subject himself to another humiliating defeat; this time within his own party if the survey reports do not favour him.
