The mother of all reshuffles in the Mills administration is set to hit the nation anytime soon. A tentative list spotted by the Daily Post newspaper indicates that a simple swapping of Ministers will occur in three major ministries.
It is also definite some ministers will become unemployed after the reshuffle. Government sources say the performance of the three ministeries to be swapped have been satisfactory and that their swapping is in line with what power brokers in the NDC had suggested since last year in terms of making the Mills administration more efficient.
What is basically clear from this expected swapping is that a Ministerial diva who has become too hot for the NPP to handle will move up to become Ghana’s chief international policy negotiator. Sources further say that the performance of this screen goddess of a minister in making sure Ghana got good deals from some legal negotiations with foreign and local companies has been superb. On the casualty list is this Minister who has decided to flirt profusely with some NPP apparachiks.
This Minister is on record to have ignored a directive of President Mills to do some restructuring at Ghana Airport Company. The President is equally said to be furious over the inaction of this Minister. Government elements said the last minute attempt by this Minister including his recent door-to-door knocking of some power brokers for the President to rescind his decision will hit the rocks. “He is definitely on his way out,” a usually reliable source said. The Deputy Minister in this Ministry is being considered to take up front for her boss.
Some ministers who have blatantly refused to get out of their office to inspect projects and generally offer managerial advice are also being considered for dismissal. Internet lobbying is said to intensity this week. Some Ministers who have developed premonition that the reshuffle may remove them from government are expected to kick start a major media campaign with some emissaries to be dispatched to do the lobbying.
President Mills is said to be particularly furious at Ministers and ohter government functionaries who are yet to declare their assets. Government sources are prognosticating that this reshuffle may be the “finale real reshuffle’ where no other major reshuffle will occur till the four-year tenure of the NDC administration elapses.
