A Deep Throat inside the International Criminal Court (ICC) has hinted the ‘Daily Post’ of the decision of the court to keep an eye on certain six key personalities within Ghana’s opposition party, the New Patriotic Party, because their activities and utterances incite people to engage in violence and genocide.

Speaking to this paper over the weekend, the Deep Throat named the six personalities as the party’s flag-bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, party Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, National Organiser, Moctar Bamba, National Youth Organiser, Anthony Karbo, MP for Assin North, Kennedy Agyepong and Former National Chairman of the party, Peter Mac Manu.

According to the source, the ICC is analyzing the speeches and activities of these people, especially the utterances they have made to incite Ghanaians to violence and genocide as well as the reported distribution of machetes by some leading figures of the party to supporters.

The source noted that machetes were used extensively by the pro-Hutu militant group, the Interemhawe. It is for this reason that the alleged distribution of machetes to NPP youth has alarmed the ICC.

According to the source, the ICC has evidence of how the machetes were shared to the youth in the Eastern Region. The machetes were reportedly displayed at Kyebi by young men when it was falsely announced that the NPP had won the election. Again, the source noted that the Tema Community One police has in its possession some of the machetes seized from NPP youths.

The Deep throat said the ICC’s mandate does not only cover human right abuses committed during conflicts but also conducts that lead to atrocities like genocide. It said it was for this reason that the ICC views comments by Kennedy Agyepong promoting genocide as criminal.

For Moctar Bamba, his claim of having a group called the Bamba Boys added him to the least while for Anthony Karbo, his call for violence if the NPP is not announced the winners of the 2012 Presidential elections marked him out as a candidate for the ICC.

Peter Mac Manu’s name is in the list due to his claim on citi FM last year that the NPP will go into the 2012 elections with machetes and cudgels.

Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey is seen as the supervisor of the violent comments and actions emanating from the NPP. The ICC, the Deep Throat said, has opened a file for these personalities for future reference.

Meanwhile, since the NPP was defeated at the 2012 polls, a section of its supporters have been on the rampage attacking innocent citizens, especially supporters of the NDC. The police, so far, has failed to make any arrests.
