According to very reliable sources, Dr Charles "Tarzan" Wereko-Brobby, Chief Executive of Volta River Authority (VRA), will be fired in early June. It has been already decided at the highest level of government.
Wereko-Brobby has become a liability for the NPP administration, since he's very unpopular at VRA and in many government circles.
His latest crime: While VRA was in deep crises, he bought many luxery cars (Terranos, Volvos, Benz) for the top brass. Six of those cars have already gone missing; two have been traced to the palaces of two very prominent chiefs in Ghana.
Meanwhile, the minister for energy, Dr. Kwesi Ndoum, is meeting VRA staff today (19 June). It is being rumored that Tarzan was asked by President Kufuor to remain home last Friday and preparations seem to be in process to send him on a long leave; at least from VRA.
Other Sources indicate the President is in the process of creating a new ministry (for Ghana Airways) and appoint the VRA boss as the head.
President Kufuor is unwilling to fire Tarzan outright, because he's believed to be in possession of embarrassing information on many members of the current administration - Information, that when brought to the public domain, could destroy the credibility of the NPP Govt.
Tarzan is expected to be replaced by Mr. Eric Yankah at VRA.
Ironically, VRA interdicted Mr. Yankah and Major (rtd) J.B. Gyasi for allegedly leaking official documents to the media. They were recalled early this year.
Mr. Yankah has since the interdiction, been playing the role of Energy Policy Advisor to the Minister. The interdiction of the two, which was orchestrated by Wereko-Brobby, was in connection with VRA staff agitation over their welfare benefits, and allegations of mismanagement by the VRA management. The two were alleged to have leaked documents to the news media, causing internal documents and memoranda to become the subject of media discussion and headlines.
