Is It True That ...

Fri, 18 Jun 2004 Source: Palaver

The NPP Government in an absolutely unnecessary show of force, using a contingent of military and police personnel, stormed the palace of the Omanhene of the Hemang Traditional Area using as an excuse a false intelligence report that an NPP supporter had been murdered and the body buried within the precincts of the palace and subjected the Omanhene, his elders and subjects to the most horrifying of brutalities, only ceasing after a thorough searching and digging of the palace and its precincts had revealed no evidence of any such burial, leaving the Omanhene and his people in a most dreadful state of fear and alarm, and whether, if this incident as reported is true, it does not evoke memories and provide further evidence of the NPP regime?s total disregard for the human rights of citizens and especially the regime?s utter contempt of and disregard for our chiefs, the chieftaincy institution and the traditional authorities generally, given that similar desecration of traditional palaces have taken place at Sefwi Wiawso and other places and given the recent targeted judicial assault on the most prominent Paramount Chiefs in the Brong Ahafo Region who are suspected of having pro-NDC sympathies?
