Winneba, Jan 8, GNA - The government has earmarked 600 million cedis this year for the provision of a bus and the rehabilitation of the kitchen and the auditorium of the National Sports College at Winneba. Last year the government spent 250 million cedis to improve some facilities at the College.
These were contained in a speech read on behalf of Mr Kwadjo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Education Youth and Sports by Mr Conellius Steven Sackey, Chief Director at the Ministry to round off an International Junior Tennis Tournament at the College on Wednesday. About 20 countries including Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Benin, Sierra Leone, Germany, Australia, Belgium, France, Mali, Guinnea and Senegal took part in the tourney, which was jointly hosted by Ghana and Togo.
Mr Baah Wiredu assured the management of the College of government's determination to improve conditions at the College and urged them to work harder than before to justify government's effort at improving the lots of the institution.
He conveyed his appreciation to both players and handlers of the teams for the high sense of discipline and commitment exhibited during the tourney.
The minister praised Ghana's team for winning both the boys and girls doubles, as well as the boys singles finals and assured them that the government would continue to support them to enable them to perform better in future events.
Present at the closing ceremony were Alhaji Salifu Ndanusa, President of Nigeria Tennis Federation and Nai Ghartey VII Omanhehne of Effutu Traditional Area.
