Members of the seven- man squad Black Loopers who would represent Ghana at the All Afrcan Games in Mozambique’s city of Maputo have promised to go as far as to the medal zone and bring home honours.
After watching the Loopers’ train under Coach Owusu Ansah at the Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium, the 2011 SWAG award winner, Felix Lartey told yours truly he was ready to battle the giants of table tennis in Africa to become the new champion.
According to Lartey, the SWAG award has inspired him to be the top star of Ghana tennis since last year and he hopes to carry the title as the best in Ghana for a long time, though he knows there are others itching to wear the title.
He said he was aware of the big players from Nigeria, South Africa and Egypt, but Ghana is going to top all this time.
“We know there are top stars from these nations who play table tennis to the highest level, but this time, we have trained well and all is well in camp. We promise nothing than entering the medal zone and I personally want to get a medal. My target is gold,” he said.
One other rising star, Cecilia Baah- Danso (picture) said she is promising nothing than a medal and it could be gold or silver or bronze as she sees the competition to be keen.
“We have what it takes to be champions. Our coaches have taken us through all that we need to know. We have watched the top stars of the world play and personally I want to be like my inspirer Kim Gilbert of the USA.
“I want to prove a point that there are better table tennis stars in Ghana. We shall not return empty handed. We will come home as champions” she pledged.
Ghana will be represented by seven players made up of four male and three female players. They are Felix Lartey, Derek Abrefa, Ben Joe Sam, Samuel Akayede, Akosua Ketu, Cynthia Kwabi and Cecilia Baah- Danso.
