The 2018 edition of the National under 12 Championship came to an end on Sunday, with Kwasi Frimpong of Baboo Sports Academy, Tema, and Tracy Ampah of Tarkwa Tennis Club, Tarkwa, emerging winners in the boys and girls event.
Tracy Ampeh bagged a 7-5 win over Sekina Adams for her first title at the event while Kwasi Frimpong successfully won 6-2 over Isaac Akuaku.
The promising talent to watch, Tracy Ampah in an interview with ghanatennis.org said, “I am happy to come out a winner; it is a good feeling of accomplishment."
The soft-spoken youngster added that “At first when I started playing in the first and second round, I thought I will not last up to the second round because there were good players who gave me worries. They are Doris Adjokatse and Anna Gariba who made me to panic. But here I am standing victorious and I am coming back to defend my title. I'm not yet done.”
Tracy thanked her coach, Richard and her father who constantly advised her when she went wrong on the court.
Boys 12 and under winner Kwasi Frimpong also said: “It was not an easy game playing against tournament favourite and now that I have won the competition, I will not rest on my oars but will go for more training at my tennis club.”
Tournament Supervisor said, "The skills displayed by these juvenile players, clearly shows that we have enough 12 and under players who can defend the ITF/CAT West and Central Africa Junior Championship title in 2019 for the third time".
The National under 12 Championship was organized by Tennis Foundation Ghana (TFG) under the auspices of the GTF with support from Tenolf Sports.
