Accra, Dec 12, GNA - Henry Adjei-Darko, Ghana's number one tennis player (top Seed) has dropped over 400 places on the rankings of the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
Adjei-Darko, according to the latest rankings released by the ITF and gathered by the GNA Sports indicates that as at the close of Monday, he now ranks 624.
The 24-year old 'serve and volley' player whose career best was 275 as at January 2006, according to the rankings witnessed a dramatic drop within two weeks.
Ranked in the 470's about a fortnight ago, he retrogressed for almost 250 places between early and mid December, his worst ever since he took the mantel from Gunther Darkey as the Number One over a year ago.
The player last played for Ghana in the Euro-Africa Zone III play-off in Namibia in July where their quest to qualify Ghana back to Zone 11 backfired.
The Number One's career best was Ghana's highest ever in the history of the competition.
Adjei-Darko is not the only Ghanaian player experiencing the dip in ranking as further checks by the GNA Sports on the website of the ITF reveals that Salifu Mohammed whose career best is 686, as at October 2005 is now ranked 899.
Darkey, Fredrick Egyir and Michael Nortey have not been ranked possibly due to inactivity.
Darkey based in the United Kingdom has career best ranking of 485 as at 2001.
Owusu Menford regarded as Ghana's hope entered the professional rankings for the first time in October after reaching the second round of the ITF Futures staged in the country. He is yet to add a point to the 1422 derived from that competition.
