All is set for Ghana to host the world’s biggest Tennis Stars in an International Tennis Federation, (ITF).
The ITF tournament is expected to begin April 29 to May 4 at the tennis courts in Accra Sports Stadium.
The historic event is put together by the McDan Foundation in association with the Ghana Tennis Federation and Tennis Foundation Ghana.
This year s tourney is an upgrade of the annual McDan West Africa Open tournament sponsored by the McDan Group of Companies, and opens to all players across the world.
According to the organizers, some countries have confirmed their participation, these include Italy, Switzerland, England, US, India, Namibia, Nigeria, Poland, and Russia.
For the success of the tournament and as done by the McDan foundation in previous tournaments the prize money has been increased to $15,000.
Speaking at the launch of this year’s McDan open championship at the residence of Dr. Daniel Mckorley, the Director of Marketing, Gerald Owusu Ansah said: “It’s very difficult to put together this great event many thanks to the association head Dr. Daniel Mckorley for all the assistance.”
He continued: “Organizing an ITF tournament has been a challenge for the Tennis Federation but through the McDan Foundation we have been able to secure sanction from ITF and we believe that the tournament will be standard and different from the previous ones and believe also that our players will get the needed exposure.”
According to the President of the Ghana Tennis Federation, Isaac Aboagye Duah the tireless effort of McDan to acquire ITF status is highly commendable.
He added that, players participating for ITF/ATP points and money is a morale booster and good news to the Federation and Ghana after many years of absence in Ghana.This year’s championship has received big supports in sponsorship from Twellium Industries, Palace Decor, Interplast Company Limited, Insurance and FOX Cooling.
Representatives from all the supporting sponsors promised to help the tournament become a success head of Marketing for Twellium Industries Limited, Emelia Gyasi, FOX Cooling General Manager, Mario Yazbeck and interplast PRO Elizabeth Gyebi.
