Ghana to participate in Africa championship

Accra, March 17, GNA - The National Table Tennis team, the Golden Loopers will from April 10th-18th participate in the 18th edition of the African Cadets and Juniors Tennis Championships slated for Cairo, Egypt. The team is expected to commence camping for the competition to which the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has selected 16 top ranked Cadet and Junior players for camping ahead of the competition. The selection follows two days of an all-play-all competition which saw 135 players participating.

Kwame Ampofi Jnr, General Secretary of GTTA told GNA Sports that ten out of the 16 selected players will be selected for the championship in Egypt.


He said the final selection will be based on performance and high level of discipline, general comportment and total adherence to camp rules to be set by the Technical Committee.

Ampofi Jnr said the selected players have since ended the ongoing non-residential camping, while the residential camping has been scheduled for March 28 to April 9 at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, Accra.


Among the selected players in the boys cadet category are Samuel Akayade and Emmanuel Asante both from Koforidua Secondary Technical School, Isaac Davies from the Cape Coast Catholic Jubilee School and Michael Darbah of Winneba A.M.E Zion Junior High School The Girls' Cadet team has Gloria Asafo-Adjei from Koforidua Secondary Technical School, Dorothy Oboubi of Winneba A.M.E Zion Junior High School, Gina Hackman of Winneba H/E Educational Centre and Fatima Obiri Yeboah from Accra, In the junior boys category, the team is made up of Felix Lartey, Derek Abrefa, Emmanuel Commey all of Ghana Immigration Service and Philip Mensah from the Kwanyako Secondary Technical School, whilst the junior girls division includes Bernice Borquaye from Ghana Armed Forces, Navy-Takoradi, Eva Amankwah from Kumasi, Celia Baah-Danso from Sunyani Polytechnic and Cynthia Kwabi of the Ghana Immigration Service 17 March 09
