Accra, April 5, GNA- The 12.1 million cedi Juvita National Open Tennis Championship currently underway at the tennis courts of the Accra Sports Stadium will enter the quarter - final stage on Wednesday April 7.
The competition which brought together about 172 players nation wide has so far not recorded any major upset.
Almost all the top seeds according to information gathered by the GNA Sports have proved their worth so far by wining their games convincingly with only Pascal Ziyab Alome and Eugene Hammond, forth and fifth seeds of the boys U-16 team respectively emerging as the only casualties.
Alome found it difficult to even hold on his set for his opponent Winfred Annane to take advantage of the situation defeating him 4-2, 3-5, 4-2 while Hammond on the other hand was given a rude awakening by Rolland Hayfrom with a 5-3, 4-2 margin win.
The men's competition which will see the winner take home a cash prize of two million cedis plus products from Juvita has so far lived up to its billing as top seeds like Patrick Nortey, a member of the Davis Cup Team disposed off the threat of Eric Nartey with a cheeky 6-2, 6-4 result as the former won the two sets with fluent play spiced with great flair.
On Wednesday, Nortey is favoured against Yanni Joseph who won against Joe Doe by the same margin when the duo clashed at the centre court at the stadium to book a place to the last four of the championship.
The top liner for the day, however, is expected to be the game between Clement Tackie and Daniel Fumi as both players gave a good account of themselves in their respective games against Edward Quarcoo and Daniel S Agyapong with a 6-4, 6-0 and 6-2 and 6-4 win over their opponents. In other games, Richard Quashie will cross swords with Michael Nortey whilst Sadiq Abubakar will meet Edmund Quarcoo.
