Accra, Nov. 21, GNA - This year's Ghana Tennis Association Seniors Open Championship would begin at the Accra Tennis Club courts on Thursday, November 24 - Saturday, December 3.
The competition, which is to be under the patronage of Shiekh I.C. Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister, is being jointly sponsored by the Regional Administration, Japan Motors Trading Company, Unique Trust Financial Services, Apstar Airlines and State Insurance Company of Ghana Limited.
Mr Fats Nartey, Regional Co-ordinating Director of the Office of the Regional Co-ordinating Council, announced these at the launch of the event in Accra on Monday.
He named the events as Ladies Singles (30 years and above), Men's Singles (30 Years and above), Men's Singles (40 Years and above), Men's Singles (50 years and above), Men's Doubles (50 years and above) Men's Doubles - Super Veterans (60 years and above) and Mixed Doubles restricted to only 30 years and above for Ladies and 40 years and above for Men.
Mr Nartey expressed the hope that the participants would exhibit a high sense of professionalism for a clean competition to come out with a genuine winner.
Mr Charles James Aryeh, Chief Executive officer of the National Sports Council in an address read for him, said the NSC would continue to support tennis and other lesser known sports and called on corporate bodies to assist the government in its efforts to develop sports in the country.
Mr Peter Osei-Duah, Managing Director of State Insurance Company in a speech read for him gave the assurance that his company would continue to support the competition in the ensuing years. Mr Jeff Abeasi, Chairman of the Ghana Tennis Association (GTA) thanked the sponsors for their kind gesture and expressed the hope that this year's competition would be one of the most exciting organised events.
