Accra, March 4, GNA - Ghana's national table tennis team, the "Black Loopers" will on Saturday, March 6, engage their Cote D'Ivoire counterparts in an International friendly Table Tennis Tournament, on Saturday 6th March, 2010 at the Ohene-Djan Sports Stadium, Accra. The tournament, which is under the sponsorship of the Chairman of the Ghana Table Tennis Association, (GTTA) Squadron Leader Ebo Bartels, the National Sports Council (NSC) and the Cote D'Ivoire Table Tennis Federation is to test the strength of the players of the two teams for international assignments.
A statement issued and signed by Kwame Amponfi Jr, Secretary General of the GTTA said the tournament was also to test the performance level of players in the National Model Team currently undergoing weekend training camp.
It said categories for the competition include the Cadets (Under-15), Boys, Juniors (Under-18) Boys & Girls and Seniors' Boys. Ghana's contingent for the one-day tournament has Isaac Davies, Asante Emmanuel, Kingsley Hooper and Desmond Nketia in the Cadet Boys, whilst the junior boys sector is made up of Mawutor Quarcoo, Samuel Akayade, Emmanuel Commey and Stephen Sam-Mensah.
The girl's junior team includes Celia Baah Danso, Cynthia Kwabi, Abigail Tetteh and Eva Amankwah. In the senior boys division, the Loopers will be represented by Abrefa Derek, Lartey Felix, Bernard Joe Sam and Eric Addo. The team will be handled by coach Anthony Owusu-Ansah with Emmanuel Yarboi as his assistant. According to the statement, the tournament will be graced by Mr Wolanyo K. Agra, Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council.
